Meet Our Herd!
Here you will learn more about our herd, who they are, and what they do! Every animal on our ranch serves a purpose, both on the ground within the herd, and off the body, at my markets (Ahem... their fiber!!) Each individual alpaca is unique in their own way, with their own unique personalities, quirks, and even fiber. Rancher Karee can tell you exactly whose fiber is whose when it is in bags after shearing! Our entire herd, males and females alike, is a mix of fiber animals as well as breeding stock. There are 22 natural colors of alpaca fiber, and we have nearly all 22 colors within our herd! We of course have several of each color, with no particular color being Rancher Karee's favorite, she loves them all!
The Girls
We have roughly 20 girls here at Pacas West. Our girls range in age from 3 years old up to 17 years old. We have a handful of retired mommas who are 16 - 17 years old. They spend their time minding their own business, and side eying the youngers. We have a handful of breeding girls ages 6 -14 yrs old. They run the roost and spend their time butting their noses into everyone else's business, trying to keep order in the kingdom. Lastly, we have our youngers. They spend their days following around their mommas and sisters, looking to the olders to take their cues, and learning how to butt into other's business.

The Boys
Our boys range in size and age as well. From our big boy studs, all the way down to our pocket paca, Bullet. Our boys ages range from 12 years down to 1 year old. We have 3 big boy studs, and are kept separate from our younger, non and not yet breeding, and gelded boys.
We have 4 geldings now, with Gus and Rebel being the oldest, 6 yrs old, and in charge. Rebel is The Boss. Gus keeps the peace and tells everyone the rules. If someone isn't following the rules, or listening to Gus, look out, Reb will step in, and you DON'T want that! He is the protector of the boy herd, and Ultimate Boss.
Within our boy herd, we have nearly all of the colors, making them a perfect fiber herd.
Stud Services
We have three males for stud services. Each boy has something unique to offer to any dam, and all will be a wonderful addition to your farm, herd, and fiber collection. Learn about each boy and chose the one(s) that are right for your goals!
Nadir

Dense, Dense, Dense
Starshire's Nadir is one handsome well built boy! Born at 20 pounds with bone and beautiful fleece. He is a well balanced boy with a beautiful head, stunning fleece character and tons of density - or as Amanda VandenBosch states, "abundant fleece!”
At age 8, Nadir is still maintaining his fleece traits and producing nearly 5lbs of fleece, with good crimp and decent length, and of course, lots of density!
Nadir's offspring all posses his density, crimp, and easy going personality. Nadir has produced all colors of crias, as he has most colors in his background, with the exception of silver gray. If you're looking for a true white, true black, or beautiful fawn, Nadir is your guy!

Angus
Crimpy & Fine
Starshire’s Angus is one very handsome male! He has excellent conformation and coverage as well as a gorgeous head. His fleece is dense, very fine, and bright.
Angus has a great maternal pedigree. His dam, Aleutian Eagle’s Rosa is a beautiful Patagonia’s Ernesto daughter. Ernesto is a Judge’s Choice Winner, 7x Champion, and 5x Get of Sire Winner.
Angus is the spitting image of his sire, Neversummer’s US Steel, the 3x Futurity Herdsire of the Year (201.6, 2017, 2018, small breeder division).
At age 7, Angus is still retaining his fleece quality, being fine and lustrous. He has taken 1st Place in both 2022 and 2025 for Longevity at the IFA show and placed 2nd in 2022 for Grade 3 Gray Fleece.
Angus' breeding career has been limited, through no fault of his own. His one cria was a beautiful rose gray; sadly, we lost Little Bug early on. We believe Angus will throw true black and silver gray, true to himself and his sire, as well as to his sisters, whom we own, which is why he has not had many opportunities to breed on our ranch. His sisters and nephews posses the same lustrous, zipper crimpy,
fine fiber!
Give him a try, you won't be disappointed!

Storm
Soft & Dense
If you are looking for a fiber animal or just a cute baby and pet, Storm is your guy! Storm is calm and sweet, and that comes through in his offspring. He produces nearly 5lbs of dense, beautiful bay black fiber every year at shearing. While his micron count is not fine, it is just right for hobby fiber arts. All of his cria have had beautifully soft, dense fleece and I always sell out of their fiber.
For the hobby farmer, Storm is my #1 recommendation!

Breeding
If breeding occurs at our ranch, the pair will be set up in a grassy, secure pen. The male will be on a lead at all times, to ensure the safety of the dam.
If breeding on client's property, a secure area must be provided; the male will remain on a lead at all times, to ensure the safety of the dam.
Karee also knows a 'Livestock Doula' who does livestock ultrasounds, and she may be available to clients in the area!

Rancher Karee does her best to ensure her boys are getting the job done!
