Pacas West Paca Grow

Wildflower Fiber Mats

At Pacas West we try to utilize every ounce of fiber shorn from our animals. After four years of shearing, we finally found a use from fiber discarded from the carding machine. Oklahoma Mini Mill is using discarded fiber, to make felted, seeded, fiber mats to grow wildflowers in a pot! How Cool!!!

The fiber is divided into weighed clumps. Then seeded with wildflower seeds.

The fiber is then pressed into felted mats.

Seeded fiber mats are made from as much of our discarded fiber as we would like.

Fill your pot 2/3 of the way full.

Place fiber mat, add beans if you want! And cover with 1/2 inch of soil.

Water until fiber and soil is thoroughly damp. Water to keep damp, but not wet. The fiber will retain the moisture below the top soil.

Watch your flowers grow over the first two weeks.

They should be really sprouting within a month of planting!
